Roger Milla

Roger Milla (born Albert Roger Mooh Miller on 20 May 1952) is a retired Cameroonian footballer who played as a striker. He was one of the first African players to be a major star on the international stage. He played in three World Cups for the Cameroon national team.
He achieved international stardom at 38 years old, an age at which most footballers have retired, by scoring four goals at the 1990 World Cup, the most memorable of which came in the match against Colombia when he dispossessed the showboating Colombian goalkeeper René Higuita 35 yards from goal, going on to score in the empty net with Higuita stranded. He helped the Cameroon team reach the quarter-finals, still the joint best performance by an African team in the World Cup.
He is also remembered for his trademark goal celebration of running to the corner flag and performing a dance. In the years that have followed, he has been recognised as a pioneer of the many unconventional and imaginative goal celebrations seen since then. He was named one of the 125 greatest living football players in 2004 by the legendary Brazilian football player Pelé.

It is one of the best teams in Africa and the world, with international recognition. Many of his players are spread around the earth and delight spectators with their skill and joy in playing.
 The biggest title of Cameroonian football is the gold medal it won in the Summer Olympics of 2000.
 In FIFA World Cup, his best result was 7th place in 1990, when surprised and  everyone where, Roger Milla, who at 38 years old, still stole the scene.
 In the All Africa Games won four gold medals in 1991, 1999, 2003.2007.
 In Women's Cup, won the bronze medal in the Pan-African Games 2003.
 Won four times the African Nations Cup in 1984, 1988, 2000 and 2002.
 Also highlighted in championships such as the Central African Games, the African Nations Cup Asian, CEMAC Cup, World Cup and African Cup UDEAC Football U-17.
 The country also holds a record: Roger Milla played the World Cup 1994 with 42 years of age and scored a goal, the defeat of honor in  6 x1 to Russia, becoming the oldest player to score in a World Cup.

World Cup


1982 FIFA World Cup


Cameroon qualified for their first World Cup in 1982. With the increase from 16 to 24 teams qualified Cameroon was, along with Algeria to represent Africa in Spain. Cameroon was drawn into a group with Italy, Poland and Peru. In his first game against Italy and Cameroon held in a surprising 1-1 tie, but failed to qualify for the second round.


African Nations 1984

Two years later, Cameroon qualified for the 1984 African Nations Cup, held Incoterms d'Ivoire. They finished second in their group in the first round before beating Algeria on penalties in the semi-final. In the final, Cameroon defeated Nigeria 3-1 with goals from Rene N'Djeya, Theophile Abega and Ernest Ebongué to become champions of Africa for the first time.


1990 FIFA World Cup

Cameroon qualified for the World Cup in 1990 beating Nigeria and Tunisia in the final round. In the final stage Cameroon were drawn into group B with Argentina, Romania and the Soviet Union. Cameroon defeated champions Argentina in the opening game 1-0 with a goal scored by Francois-Biyik Omama. Cameroon later defeated Romania 2-1 and lost to the Soviet Union 0-4, becoming the first side to top the World Cup Finals group with a negative goal difference. In the second round Cameroon defeated Colombia 2-1, with 38 years Roger Mila scored two goals in extra time. In the quarter-final against Cameroon England. After 25 minutes England David Platt scored for England. In the second, however, haft Cameroon came back with a penalty 61 minutes Emmanuel Kunde and took the lead with 65 minutes Ekékéon Eugene. England however equalized in the 83rd minute with a penalty from Gary Lineker. Lineker made in 3-2 for England with a penalty in 105 minutes. The team was coached by Russian manager and former player Valeri Nepomniachi.


1994 FIFA World Cup

The 1994 World Cup in the USA had the adjustment of representation for three African teams qualify. Cameroon qualified with Nigeria and Morocco. In the final stage Cameroon were drawn into Group B with Sweden, Brazil and Russia. After a 2-2 draw with Sweden convincing, Cameroon were determined to make an impact. However a 3-0 loss to Brazil and a 6-1 loss to Russia. In his last game against Russia, the then 42-year-old Roger Milla became the oldest player to play and score in a final match of the World Cup.

1998 FIFA World Cup

The 1998 World Cup in France saw an increase from 24 to 32 teams. Cameroon qualified for the next five African countries. After qualifying as expected, Cameroon were drawn into Group B with Italy, Chile and Austria. While drawing with Chile and Austria, a 3-0 defeat to Italy saw Cameroon eliminated as a result. Cameroon had three players sent off during the tournament, more than any other team, despite only playing three games. They also had higher counts of cards per game of any team, collecting an average of four reserves in every game they played.


2002 FIFA World Cup

Cameroon qualified for the 2002 World Cup winning first place in their group that includes Angola, Zambia and Togo. In a warm-up game, Cameroon again came close to being the first African team to beat England with a 2-2 draw. England until now, are still undefeated by an African nation. Cameroon were drawn into Group E with Germany, Ireland and Saudi Arabia. Cameroon began with a 1-1 draw with Ireland after giving up the lead and then defeated Saudi Arabia 1-0. In his last game of Cameroon were defeated 2-0 by Germany and were eliminated by closely Irish had not lost a game.


Missing out on Germany 2006

In the 2006 World Cup qualifying round Cameroon were drawn into group 3 with the Ivory Coast, Egypt, Libya, Sudan and Benin. Cameroon took the group for most of the time until the final game. On October 8, 2005 Cameroon drew 1-1 with Egypt, while Ivory Coast defeated Sudan 3-1. This result prevented from Cameroon to the World Cup.


2010 FIFA World Cup 2010 World QualificationIn Cameroon, the team was grouped with Gabon, Togo, Morocco and the national football teams. After a slow start in his campaign with a shocking loss to Togo and a draw against Morocco, Cameroon coach, Otto Pfister, was fired and the Frenchman Paul Le Guen was appointed as the new coach. Le Guen has caused a rise in spirits of Cameroon as they managed a victory against Gabon in Libreville, followed by another victory against the Panthers, four days later in Yaounde. A month later, they beat Togo in Yaounde by 3 goals. On November 14, 2009, Cameroon defeated the Atlas Lions of Morocco 2-0 in their last game of his campaign. Gabon was also defeated 1-0 in Lome Togo. Both results led to Cameroon to qualify for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
The Indomitable Lions were the first team to be mathematically eliminated in the 2010 World Cup, starting out in the second group to Denmark after losing it 1-2 after a 0-1 defeat to Japan.

First game

Cameroon played its first match against Djibouti in 1960, winning 9–2. They were first qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations in 1970, but were knocked out in the first round. Two years later, as host nation, the Indomitable Lions finished third in1972  Africa Cup of Nations. They would not qualify for the competition for another ten years.

Cameroon National Football Team


The Cameroon national football team, nicknamed Les Lions Indomptables (The Indomitable Lions), is controlled by the Fédération Camerounaise de Football and is Africa's most successful side in FIFA world cup; Since it if qualified for the FIFA World Cup six times – in 1982, 1990, 1994, 1998, 2002 and 2010– more than any other African nation. They were the first African team that reached the quarter-final of the World Cup, in 1990, losing to England in extra time. They have also won four Africa Cup of Nations and a gold medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics.

Literature

The origins of Cameroon Literature are embedded in the past of the country. The advent of the colonial powers in Cameroon led to the influence of the colonizers over the literature of the colonized, the Cameroonians. The written literature of Cameroon like the writings of Sultan Ibrahim Njoya and Rudolph Doula Manga Bell, was lost or abandoned during the colonial period.
One of the widely appreciated books was written by a Cameroonian the ' Vision of the White World from a Black Perspective' by Joseph Ekolo.
The first novel in the literature of Cameroon was Nnanga Kon written by Jean-Louis Njembe Medou was published in 1932. The language used was Boulou. The novelists like Francis Bebey, Mongo Beti, Rene Philombe and others if concentrated on the subject of colonization.
The writers women of Cameroon contributed a significant part to the literature of the country, as  Theresa Kuoh Morkouri,a novelist, Marie Pauline Thorbecke, Marie Claire Matip and others wrote before independence as Lydie Dooh Bunya, Marie Theresa Assiga, Werewere Liking and Rabiatou Njoya, that dominated the Cameroonian literary scene after independence.

Mount Cameroon and Mount Faka

Mount Cameroon , the highest mountain in Central and West Africa in the city of Buea making the most wanted  tourist's destination in the Cameroon. One of the important places to visit in Cameroon, it's a place more apt for adventures like hikers and climbers. Campo Ma'an National Park

Campo Ma'an National Park with a hectare of 264,064 is located in the South of Cameroon. The entire area of the Park consists of four logging concessions, an agro-forestry zone, and an agro-industrial zone with rubber and palms as the main plant. Tourists visiting can camp out here for the day in the midst of various plants and animals. Elephants, lowland gorillas, giant pangolins, chimpanzees, hippos, mandrills and black colobus are all found here. The park is also home to numerous number of plant and flower species and well-known for its rich biodiversity.




Waza National Park

Waza National Park is situated in the Far North Province of Cameroon was founded in 1934. The Park covers a total area of 1,700 sq km and when was discovered was a used as a hunting reserve. The hunt is famous  for adventure seekers, one can go for tracking through the jungle and enjoy its green beauty. Managed by the Conservation Service of the Waza National Park.

 The music in its different varieties are popular in the Cameroon. Every day, radio stations disclose several hours of music programs. Cuisine of Camoroon

The typical kitchen camerunesa is fish. It has a lot of variety of species of good taste and quality, both freshwater and sea. The typical dish of food is camerunesa Ndola, a dish prepared with meat or fish, and accompanied by spicy peanuts, they are also the typical cus-cus corn with fish sauce and meat with champinhons.

How curious dishes, we have that are made with crocodile meat, porcupine or good (which is recommended to avoid).
 Other dishes that are prepared to smoked fish "Gombo," the chicken and beef with peanuts and palm nuts. The Western cuisine can be eaten in Doualaou Yaoundé.


ORIIGIN OF THE NAME

The Portuguese sailors Reached the coast of Cameroon in 1472. They Noted the abundance of shrimp in the river Wouri River and called it River of Cameroon, from where the actual name of the country.
